报告题目：Failure of Thermal Barrier Coatings under Isothermal Oxidation and Solid Particle Erosion

Turbine blades used in aerospace industry are operated at high temperatures for maximum efficiency and power output. Commonly used nickel-based superalloys for these components exhibit deficiency in such a high temperature condition, therefore thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) have been developed, which can be applied on the nickel-based superalloy substrate via various deposition techniques, to reduce the temperature exerted on the substrate material.
In this research, the failure behavior of a TBC system that consists of an 8 wt% yttria partially stabilized zirconia (YSZ) top coat and CoNiCrAlY bond coat, deposited on nickel‑based superalloy Inconel 718 substrate via atmospheric plasma spraying (APS) process, has been studied experimentally under isothermal oxidation at 1050°C, 1100°C, and 1150°C in air condition for different exposure durations up to approximately 2000 h.The solid particle erosion behavior of as-deposited and aged TBCs is investigated at room temperature.A temperature and exposure time-dependent interfacial fracture toughness model for TBCs has been proposed.
Dr. Rong Liu is a professor of the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Carleton University, Canada. Her research interests include high performance superalloys and surface coatings, fatigue and creep, oxidation and corrosion, wear and erosion, fracture mechanics, fatigue and creep life prediction of structural materials. She has published more than one hundred articles in journals and conference proceedings.She is a member of the American Society for Metals (ASM), USA and a member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO), Canada. She was awarded by Carleton University Research Works in 2009. In the year 2020 that marks the 50th anniversary Canada and China relations. Dr. Rong Liu was awarded the Excellent Individual who has made significant contributions in her respective field ，and promote the long standing Canada-China friendship, through Ottawa Citizen newspaper on October 1st, 2020.
